⚠️ Important Note
Because they resemble pit bull–type dogs, American Bullies may face breed restrictions in some areas. Responsible ownership and training are essential.
Today's pit bull is a descendant of the original English bull-baiting dog -- a dog that was bred to bite and hold bulls, bears and other large animals around the face and head. When baiting large animals was outlawed in the 1800's, people turned instead to fighting their dogs against each other.
Epigenetics means how behaviors and environment can change how genes work, essentially, "turning genes on or off."
For instance, a rat mother who licks and grooms her offspring can epigenetically alter how they regulate stress, leading to a calmer stress response in the offspring throughout their lives.
This demonstrates how environmental factors, like parental behavior, can create lasting changes, even though the underlying DNA remains the same.
Basically, regardless of our DNA, it is possible to “change" how we perceive the world, and how we react to it.
With assertive (firm yet fair) guidance, any dog can make a great family pet.
Meeting lots of different people, children, and other dogs while they are puppies, helps a lot. This is what they call socialization.
Keep in mind, they'll also need a clean place to live, plenty of exercise, good food, and occasional cuddles.
You should be good.
